THE DAILY SENTINEL-TRIBUNE BOWLING GREEN, OHIO Tuesday, August 13, 1968 Memorial Fountain Will Be Built At Rossford ROSSFORD Village Coun-1 cil Monday night agreed to build the proposed Uffmann Memorial Fountain with the $25,000 left in the will of the late Fred Uffman, the first mayor of Rossford who was reelected seven times. Lloyd Brothers of Toledo have been authorized to draw plans for the fountain, which will be placed in front of the Municipal Building. Mr. Uffmann earmarked a portion of his will for the fountain, which will have a center water jut between eight and 10 feet high with 12 juts. Red and turquoise lights will shine on the fountain during evening hours.

Residents of Santus Drive were present at the meeting and told council they have gathered 57 per cent of signatures needed on a petition to pave the street. Sixty per cent of the residents must sign the petition before action will be taken. Ulbricht Leaves Czechoslovakia PRAGUE (UPI)-East Germany's Communist chief Walter Ulbricht left Czechoslovakia today after talks with liberal Czechoslovak leaders in which both sides pledged to increase trade and decrease friction in the East Europe bloc. Ulbricht and Czechoslovak Communist party chairman Alexander Dubcek put on a public show of friendliness that broke the chill so apparent in their discussions at Karlovy Vary in western Czechoslovakia. The spade-bearded Ulbricht was the most bitter critic of Czechoslovakia's liberalized government and had been booed during public appearances at Bratislava earlier this month.

Discrimination Attack Expanded WASHINGTON (UPI) The Justice Department filed 94 civil rights suits in fiscal year 1968, expanding the attack on discrimination in housing, schools, employment and voting to the North and West for the first time. Atty. Gen. Ramsey Clark a announced here in a fiscal year end report that discrimination in employment was a chief target during the 12-month period ending July 1. Fifteen of the 23 suits brought under the equal, employment section of the Civil Rights Act during the year were filed in the North and West.

The five suits brought under this section earlier were all filed in the southeast. The department filed its first Northern school cases--one in a Chicago suburb and one in Indianapolis-during the year. The first Northern voting rights case against Gary, Indiana also was brought. The first federal fair housing suit in the nation's history was filed in Baton Rouge, alleging violations of the 1968 Civil Rights Act. It accused builders and sellers of homes in three subdivisions of discrimination against Negroes.

NO BIG DEAL SAN FRANCISCO (UPI)-Mayor Joseph L. Alioto said he doesn't understand why nobody was excited when young people cleaning up Golden Gate Park unearthed two 30-year-old sculptures. "When they do this in Pompeii, it's a big deal!" the mayor said with a grin. The Rossford summer playground program will terminate Aug. 20 after 10 full weeks of supervised play.

A parade will be held Friday and will procede to Veterans Memorial Park. Each playground will construct a float for the event, and a picnic luncheon and day long fun activities will be held. Council appropriated $200 for the Rossford Civil Defense Unit to purchase shirts and hats for new members.
