Hood dies in Tallahassee By ROSE GOLDSBOROUGH Democrat staff writer Mail- Margaret Wilson Hodges Hood, owner of Goodwood Plantation and wife of the late state Sen. William C.

Hodges, died late Thursday night at Tallahassee Memorial Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. She was 80. "She served as a very gracious hostess for several sessions of the Legislature," Allen Morris, clerk of the state House of Representatives and a state historian, said of Mrs. Hood Thursday night. She was an active member of Tallahassee society, Morris said.

Hodges was president of the state Senate in 1935 and ran for governor in 1936. He died in 1940. B.K. Roberts, former chief justice of the Florida Supreme Court and an old family friend, said Mrs. Hood had been a prominent member of the social life of the city for many years.

Roberts called Goodwood Plantawhich is on Miccosukee Road and once included the site where Tallahassee Memorial now stands the most famous antebellum mansion in this part of Florida. She and her present husband, Maj. Thomas M. Hood, entertained many distinguished guests from the area and from abroad, he said. She and Hood were married during World War II.

Mrs. Hood was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. Survivors include her husband; her sister, Pearl Yarbrough of Tallahassee; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be Saturday at 11 a.m.

"We lost the game," Genualdi said. "I wasn't in a good mood. I was looped, but I wasn't taking swings at these suckers." He was 74. Monahan joined the Reader's Digest in 1946 and was named a senior editor in 1955. He retired in 1969. "They are getting part of our business this year," he said. Despite the hustle and bustle, most people have the holiday spirit, Trotter said.

This is his 29th Christmas at the postal window, and, he said, people are pretty much the same from year to year. "Most are mailing too late, but they're willing to take a chance that the package will get there on time rather than pay extra postage for fast service." The county and city currently are studying the possibilities of building a joint administrative complex. But Nichols said even that was a low priority for him because of other problems such as drainage that affect the public more. The dispute was settled by Genualdi's plea. The battery charge was droppedde a mistake," Genualdi said before leaving the courthouse Thursday to take a final exam in chemistry.

plan Regent to cut programs stays unchanged after meeting By JONATHAN PETERSON Democrat staff writer A statewide group of industrial arts instructors Thursday tried to convince an education official that a plan threatening Florida State University programs was unwise. But after the meeting, described as cordial by participants from both sides, the plan to cut the programs by 1980 remained in effect. The group met with Vice Chancellor Roy E. McTarnaghan to discuss the cancellation of bachelor's and master's industrial arts programs at FSU. And, according to Dr.

William Wargo, an FSU professor and president of the Florida Industrial Arts Association, the vice chancellor listened carefully. But McTarnaghan made no promises except to notify the regents of the group's concern. "It was a healthy discussion," McTarnaghan said. "They realize that we're trying to eliminate duplication and it's a tough problem." Wargo said he was relatively pleased though still uneasy. "It was a good meeting of minds," he said.

The regents decided in July to shrink FSU's industrial arts program because the courses were available at FAMU. Hospital news Admissions Dec. 13: John. Osborne, Nancy Lemke, Gladys Goodson, Cherry Sexton, Beniie Jester, Freddie Smith, Sharon Tyler, Sylvester Nealy, Jack Mcnu*tt. Dec.

The program belonged at FAMU, they decided, because of that university's courses in architecture and technology. They left the industrial arts doctoral program at FSU, however, because it had a broader curriculum than FAMU to support doctoral programs, McTarnaghan said.

A few weeks ago, five FSU professors were notified that their jobs would end by 1980 but that they could join FAMU's faculty next September. The industrial arts association Thursday offered three alternatives to ending the FSU programs: Keeping all industrial arts programs at either FSU or FAMU. Moving them all to another institution. Giving industrial arts instructors dual teaching status at FSU and FAMU. McTarnaghan said he believed the concerned instructors would be satisfied if they could be shown that the regents were committed to improving industrial arts at FAMU.

"I think there is a track record of the board having made promises about enhancing programs at FAMU and having kept them," he said. Regarding the proposed joint teaching status, McTarnaghan said, "How that would be managed was left a little to the imagination." He noted, though, that the FSU and FAMU industrial arts programs already had pooled resources for instruction in graphic arts and electronics. Any change in the decision would have to be made by the regents. Despite the cordial meeting, Wargo said he remained uncertain about how the problem would be resolved. "We intend to work cooperatively with the regents," he said.
